DESCRIPTION:Twin Cities-based music ensemble The Poor Nobodys will perform a live original score accompanying the screening of the silent Swedish movie A MAN THERE WAS in the Chisago Lakes High School Performing Arts Center\, 29400 Olinda Trail\, Lindstrom\, MN. 55045 on Sunday\, November 20th at 2pm. \nBased on Henrik Ibsen's epic poem and directed by Victor Sj str m\, A Man There Was (Terje \n\nVigen) was released in 1917 when many Scandinavian immigrants were arriving in Minnesota. \n\nThe film tells the story of a Swedish sailor who takes on a British blockade to find food for his\n\nfamily. It is considered to be one of the finest examples of Swedish silent film.\n\n\n\nSuggested donation $10\; no one turned away. The event is hosted by The Friends of the Karl\n\nOskar House and the Chisago Lakes Chamber of Commerce. They've written many\n\noriginal scores for both classic and new films\, including Night of the Living Dead\, Douglas\n\nFairbanks's The Black Pirate\, and Alfred Hitchcock's The Lodger. They have collaborated with\n\nvenues such as the Trylon Microcinema\, the Southern Theater\, and the Cedar Cultural Center in\n\nMinneapolis\; the Minnesota History Theater in St. Paul\; the Ark Center for the Arts in Viroqua\,\n\nWisconsin\; and many other venues in the Midwest and beyond. In 2014\, a European tour gave\n\nthe group the opportunity to perform in caf s and theaters in Germany\, Belgium\, the\n\nNetherlands\, Switzerland\, and France.\n\n\n\nPoor Nobodys member Eric Struve is a fiscal year 2022 recipient of a Creative Support for\n\nIndividuals grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board. This activity is made possible by the\n\nvoters of Minnesota through a grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board\, thanks to a legislative\n\nappropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.
