You are invited to the Karl Oskar House to enjoy: Susan Karpowicz is a fiddle and mandolin player who grew up in ND listening to her family playing old time Nordic tunes...mostly ones that her Grandfather brought over from the western coast of Norway that his well known grandfather, Vika-Petter had played during the 1800's. Her Mother played accordion and piano and encouraged Susan to take up the fiddle to learn so she could have a fiddler to play with! And since Susan's paternal grandfather had been a Swedish immigrant, she was drawn to the tunes of Sweden, also. Today she enjoys being involved with the MN State Fiddler's Association, whose mission is to preserve and promote the art of fiddling. She also loves to play with the Upper Midwest Folk Fiddler's group, which plays the dance tunes that were played years ago in this region, mostly at house parties and barn dances. She dabbles in old-time, Irish, Canadian , etc., but the Scandinavian tunes are what drew her to the fiddle and is her true joy!
